The Work
30 speed readers battled it out to be crowned Australia’s fastest reader of Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol.
We were tasked with launching the highly anticipated sequel to The Da Vinci Code, yet a global embargo about the contents of The Lost Symbol meant that we had no access to the book or it’s contents until launch day. This restriction ensured there was a lot of interest and speculation in the media about the contents of the novel, which we felt created a huge opportunity.
Our idea was to end the speculation surrounding the sequel’s plot by releasing to the media the first review by Australia’s fastest reader of the novel. Housed at the historic NSW State Library, a speed reading competition for Dan Brown fans found the fastest reader and the first reviewer, who became an official spokesperson the moment the book was finished.
The response from the media was phenomenal, with mass coverage generated across print, broadcast and online. Highlights included Channel 9’s national evening and late news, Channel 10’s national evening and late news and significant editorial coverage from both Sunrise and the Today Show.
