The BILLY bookcase is a worldwide best seller for IKEA. So it seemed fitting to celebrate its 30th birthday. To do this, we created the world’s longest outdoor bookcase on the sand at Bondi Beach. Locals were invited to swap books throughout the day or make a gold coin donation to the Australian Literacy Foundation to take a book.
This initiative not only captured the attention of the Australian press but the world’s media too, with 15 international publications covering it. Domestically the campaign reached an audience of over 12 million.
